I am trying to find the words to describe the impact Grief Slut by Evelyn Berry has had on me. The poems in this collection a raw experience of what it means to be queer and southern and have a body, how things are done to, within, and because of your body.
These poems were messy in the sense that things that happen with bodies are gross and natural and beautiful. Berry wasn’t afraid to go there with her poems, which I connected to deeply.
I recommend Grief Slut to any lover of Southern poetry specifically.
