The Book Station: WITCHFUL THINKING

The Book Station: WITCHFUL THINKING

INTRODUCTION

The Book Station is your one-stop for everything bookish, focused mainly on BIPOC authors and their stories. It's October, my favorite time of the year, and the best way to start is to read a delightful witchy romance. And π—ͺπ—œπ—§π—–π—›π—™π—¨π—Ÿ π—§π—›π—œπ—‘π—žπ—œπ—‘π—š was the one.Β

SUMMARY

Love is the trickiest spell of all.

Lucinda Caraway loves living in Freya Grove, the mystic seaside town where charms, hexes, and magical beings of all kinds are the norm. She spends her days teaching high school history and her nights reading tea leaves and tending to her conjure garden. It’s a good life . . . but she can’t stop wishing for more.

Until one night, that wish turns into a spell, and suddenly Lucy can’t say no. Not to a public karaoke performance. Not to running a 10K. And, most alarmingly, not to her high school crush, Alexander Dwyer, who needs her help unjinxing his new houseβ€”which just happens to be right across the street from hers.

Alex has spent the last ten years traveling the world on adventures; Lucy has only ever dreamed of, and he’s planning to leave again as soon as his house is safe to sell. But until Lucy can unhex herself, she and Alex are stuck together. And with so much magic in the air, maybe the next spell Lucy casts will be the one that convinces him to stay.

HOOK/QUICK SYNOPSIS

Welcome to Freya Grove, filled with magical air, yet people gossip and cast hexes against each other behind closed doors.Β

Lucy learned earlier in life that she and everyone else in her family were special. She knew she was a witch. She stepped out for the Founders Day Festival. When Nana passed away, she trusted Lucy to watch over everyone and the witches' legacy. But Lucy didn't think she was fit for the job or couldn't think of doing as well as Nana did. In fact, all she could think of was how boring her life was.Β

Have you ever met a merman? Well, meet Alexander "Alex" Owen Dwyer. He's back in the town of Freya Grove, and everyone has something to say about his return. Alex's ego doesn't let him get too invested in anything, even with a persistent mum. But it's his 29th birthday, and it's okay to be at home and celebrate with family. At least for chocolate cake.Β

Everything seems fine, even after bumping into Alex again after a long time. That's until a wish becomes a spell, and Lucy can't say NO. Imagine what would happen if your wish was "I wish for excitement in my life."Β

When their paths cross again, they decide to help each other. In exchange, Alex helps Lucy fix his new house and put it up for sale, and he helps her find a soulmate. How would this merman and witch figure out what they're looking for is staring them right in the face?Β

The chemistry between Alex and Lucy is on point. It isn't rushed or slow, but it definitely hits the sweet spot. I love it when stories are told in dual POVs, especially from the MCs' view.Β

You hardly find anything wrong when reading books like this unless you're purposely looking for it. This isn't for you if you're not a fan of a not-so-slow burn.

Β

Christine is a thirty-something-year-old Nigerian-American who loves reading almost every book she can find. You can find her daydreaming about fictional characters or watching Disney JR with her kids when she's not reading.
